Book Rescue is a thriving home-business run out of a large old farm-house on 35 acres north of New York City. The 75,000 fast-moving books coexist with a family of five humans, 10 dogs and a menagerie of other rescued animals. Betsy Lewis is the owner. She can be reached via email [bookresc@ix.netcom.com] virtually 365 days a year, and reads/answers email almost hourly from 4 or 5am until at least 5pm. Weekends too! So email is reccomended. In the event that you want to use the telephone, the business line is (607) 292-3265. Any day of the week is fine, but the Earlier in The Day the better. After 3pm you may encounter more busy signals or children answering the phone. Also, I am a notorious Morning Person and gets progressively more exhausted and less useful as the day wears on. Phones calls after 6pm are discouraged and for emergencies only. However, phone calls on both Saturdays and Sundays are very welcome. Book Rescue is located, "in real life", in the town of Burdett, New York. It is *not* an open shop and accepts no visitors. Our mailing address is: Book Rescue LLC If you need to send confidential credit card information, you can do so at the secure Book Rescue site. You can also telephone it to me directly. RETURN AND REFUND POLICY: Any book purchased from Book Rescue can be returned for any reason if you notify us, by telephone or email, within 48 hours of opening your shipment. This is in accordance with current mail order regulations. You must ship the book back carefully and quickly and remember to write RETURN in large letters on the outside of the package. We purchase books from all over the world and get over 100 incoming shipments a week: we'll never find your book if it isnt clearly marked. When the book has been returned you will get a refund check or a refund on your credit card. We ordinarily do not refund shipping in either direction although occasional exceptions occur. HOW TO INTERPRET BOOK DESCRIPTIONS: Books which come from private collections [ie are NOT from public libraries] are graded in the following by the following terms. If the book has a DustJacket it is graded seperately. If no DJ is mentioned, presume the book doesnt have one.
A Near Fine book or DustJacket at Book Rescue is a very very nice book. Even with my notoriously brief descriptions, a Near Fine book should be close to flawless, with only the most trivial imperfectons, if any. A large part of my inventory consists of books that have been used in schools or public libraries. I do not use ABAA gradings for these books. Instead I use the following terms: "retired from library usual marks" and, if appropriate: "expected wear" or "visible wear". These catchall phrases cover a wide range of possibilities. Any of these imperfections may exist in an ex-library book. The only way to know for sure is to ask for more detail from us. Possible flaws include: library stamps, scotch tape or tape residue, library pocket residue, ink notations by librarian, short repaired tears, light scribble, bumped corners, edgewear from mild to severe, library-repaired hinges, sticker scars, missing endpapers, finger soil, stains etc. Two Points to remember when deciding whether an ex-lib copy will meet your needs:
A final note: although I am not be nature fastidious, my customers are entitled to know exactly what they are buying. The best way to do this in the fast-moving world of Book Rescue, is to send an email request for me to get the book *in my hands* and then follow up with a phone call and I'll be glad to go over each page inch by inch with you. MY PRICE STRUCTURE: I price each book individually. I put alot of thought and time into pricing. My prices are based on:
I do not use antiquarian reference books. My prices are essentially non-negotiable. There are no discounts. SHIPPING OPTIONS:Book Rescue can Gift Wrap for $2.00. Additional. We can ship last minute gifts anywhere within the US with UPS Overnight and UPS Two Day and Three Day options exist. Depending on the gift's destination this can average between $5 and $25 additional. Our standard shipping is UPS Ground at a cost of $6.00 for the first book, and $1.00 for each additional. Your shipments will be fully insured and instantly-trackable. If the package is lost, Book Rescue will refund your money directly. UPS is a little faster if we can use "business to business" so please supply a Corporate or Academic address if possible. Otherwise, your home address will work fine. Please do not use a POst Office Box. You may choose to use USPO Book Rate [$3.75 first book] or USPO Priority [$5.75]. We can insure the package in your name for an additional $1.00. Book Rescue does *not* guarantee arrival unless UPS is used.
Book Rescue ships anywhere in the world. UPS delivery is available but is
undeniably very expensive.
You can choose Global Priority For Overseas shipments and Hawaii and Alaska we bill you at cost with a $2-3 handling fee. EXPEDITE YOUR ORDER! Many customers assume that any order placed on the internet will be shipped within 24 hours. This is not always humanly possible at Book Rescue. Book Rescue has only 3 to 6 people working at any given moment. There is always a backlog of orders waiting to be invoiced and shiped. And the backlog increases dramatically at Christmas, Valentine's Day, and Mothers Day. Previous Customers are always given priority handling, [in large part, because their customer files are already created and the invoicing runs faster], so be sure to notify us if you're ordered before. Ordinarily, if you place an order on the internet, it may take 7-10 days to get the book shipped. If you wish faster service, please request it and you will get it. The fastest way to get an order shipped, as a first time customer, is to use a credit card over the telephone. Then the invoice is printed during the phone call. Faxed orders are the slowest and there is always a long line of email credit card orders waiting for invoicing. Orders paid by check are welcome but obviously slower. I am notoriously trusting and will ship or drop ship for other dealers, prior to payment if I am asked. I also ship to my previous customers prior to payment.
